Jutias

Jutias

This series that I have called Mute Dogs is born from my love for Dominican history. Some time ago it occurred to me to investigate more deeply about this aspect of Taino culture, because, although it is part of us, it is an issue that has not been worked on.

The Mu Mute Dogs or Aón ’as they were known were used by our tainos to hunt the“ jutias ”- which were small rodents – and were like caviar at the taino lunch; These animals as food were tasted by the creator of the hunt and claimed that it was good on the palate. I liked the theme of the Dumb Dogs and as I understand that it is not well exploited in our history my goal is to become a cultural reference so that children and schools know that “Aón” have importance and transcendence in our culture
