Dominican Artist, Genaro Coste Félix uses a copious amount of detail in this Costumbrism style, original, oil on canvas painting. There is a gathering of many people who live in a typical Dominican community. In the background are the homes of common style in colors of yellow and pink with brown roofs. The people are having a street party. All of the men wear the same western style, tan, cowboy hats. They have on jeans and colorful button-down shirts in red, blue and green. The ladies are wearing flared skirts for an impressive twirl from their dance partners. The band members appear comfortable, as indicated by their bare feet, and passionate as indicated by the closed eyes and expressions as they sing their favorite songs. The band member in the blue shirt plays the accordion, while the member in the red shirt is playing a hand-made wooden shaker. There is a drummer off to the right side of the painting with his colorful red, white and blue barrel used as a hand-held drum. Interestingly, there is a yellow circle surrounding the inner most part of the party symbolizing totality and wholeness, which certainly applies to this “Typical Party”.
