This piece of artwork is a symbolism art piece that is made with acrylic and oil on a canvas. In Taíno culture, the hupia is the spirit of a person who has died. Hupias, as ghost spirits of those who died and the night, were feared and said to seduce women and kidnap people who ventured outside after dark which may be why this painting seems dark and the characters within this eye-catching piece look afraid. These characters on this original painting includes an owl, a sun, a fish, and other oddly shaped characters. There is also the beautiful well represented flower of the Caribbean, the Hibiscus. The artist says, “Taino culture and autochthonous elements of the Caribbean”.
